The aim of this society is to stimulate interest in the exciting, dynamic and technically demanding field of cardiothoracic surgery. Cardiothoracic surgery is a highly academic surgical specialty which encompasses principles of intensive care and acute medicine, whilst also evolving technically with advances in minimally invasive procedures. The operative procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG) employ the use of sophisticated technology such as the heart-lung bypass machine and the role of technology in this field is only growing. As heart disease remains a leading cause of mortality in the Western world, an awareness of cardiothoracic surgical procedures is crucial.

We are a highly ambitious society and hope to provide excellent educational and research opportunities that are relevant to students at all levels. We plan to run teaching programmes, surgical workshops and careers information throughout the year. We are particularly privileged to be in the home of a leading cardiothoracic centre, the Royal Papworth Hospital, giving us exposure to cutting-edge care.

Keep an eye out on our website to keep updated on the number of exciting events we have planned for the year!
